The Thief's Journal

Endless Violence

1948 Gaza has been under occupation and systematic violence. The Nakba marked the beginning of a project of ethnic cleansing, with massacres, mass expulsions and the destruction of more than 500 Palestinian villages. Today, Israel keeps Gaza under an inhumane blockade, controlling food, water and medicine, while bombing civilians with weapons financed by Western powers. The result is one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the world, with thousands dead and an entire population condemned to suffering.

The numbers do not lie: more than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, the majority of them women and children. Hospitals, schools and refugee camps are constantly targeted, in clear violation of international law. Journalists are murdered to erase the truth, and survivors are forced to bury their dead in mass graves. Meanwhile, Israel acts with total impunity, using the excuse of “self-defense” to justify a massacre that has been going on for decades.

The international community, led by the US and Europe, is complicit in this genocide. While condemning violence elsewhere, they finance and arm Israel, ensuring that the death machine continues. The UN, powerless in the face of the vetoes of Israel’s allies, issues resolutions that are ignored. Meanwhile, Gaza is reduced to rubble, and its people, without the right to refuge or defense, are treated as legitimate targets.

TBut the Palestinian resistance persists. Despite all the destruction, Gaza does not remain silent. Every image, every video, every story of survival is an act of defiance against the Zionist narrative. The world is watching, and history will judge not only the direct perpetrators of this genocide, but also those who turned a blind eye. As long as there is a Palestinian alive, the fight for justice will continue. **Gaza will not be forgotten.

Tell my story An illustration based on the poem of Refaat Alareer : If I must die. Refaat Alareer died on december 6th 2023 in an israeli airstrike along with his brother, sister and her four children. --------- If I must die, you must live to tell my story, to sell my things to buy a piece of cloth and some strings, (make it white with a long tail) so that a child, somewhere in Gaza while looking heaven in the eye awaiting his dad who left in a blaze, and bid no one farewell not even to his flesh not even to himself, sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above and thinks for a moment an angel is there bringing back love If I must die, let it bring hope, let it be a tale A poem by Refaat Alareer 1979 , 2023
